IMMANUEL INTERACT CLUB
The annual presidents report from President 2003-04 To be posted here shortly
The Interact Club of
Immanuel Lutheran College received its Certificate of Organisation by their
District Governor Allan C. Male at a special presentation meeting of the
Sponsoring Rotary Club of Mooloolaba held on 10th February 1986. The Club was organised with 17 Charter
Members as per Organisation list dated 13th November 1985 and forwarded through
the District Governor to Rotary International Southwest Pacific Service Centre. The membership grew to 32
soon after the “Charter” Presentation, and has ranged from low 20’s into the
low 30’s each year since then. Since its commencement
Teacher Denis Clarke and Rotarian Bob Smith have maintained a keen supervisory
interest in the Club; and over past few years Rotarian Noel Bridges has also
been actively involved, as well as other Rotarians who attend on special
occasions. The Club enjoys a friendly
association of service and fellowship with the sponsor Rotary Club. Interactors attend a Rotary meeting at least
twice a year and the Rotarians organise and run a “sausage sizzle” on the
College grounds to assist us with our membership drives at the beginning of
each school year, and again towards the end of the school year to present the
outgoing office bearers with Certificates of Appreciation and induct the incoming
office bearers who are presented with their Office Bearers badges. We have a sister club only a
few miles away at the Matthew Flinders Anglican College but school timetables
and transport problems have to date precluded any joint meetings. That Club was also sponsored by the
Mooloolaba Rotary Club two years after our launch, but after they sponsored the
formation of the Rotary Club of Buderim the control of that Interact Club was
handed over to the new Rotary Club. Since organisation with the
help of our Rotary sponsors, we have hosted 3 District 9600 Interact
Conferences using the first class facilities available at the College. Each year we have conducted an Easter Egg
competition at the school with a prize awarded to the school grade that collects
the highest weight of eggs, which are then distributed to Children’s and Aged
Peoples Charities and Hospitals locally.
In 1999 our collection of eggs were donated to the “Make a Wish
Foundation”. One of our early projects
with the help of our Rotary Club Associates was to sponsor the organisation of
the Interact Club of King George VI High School at Honiara in the Solomons,
also part of Rotary District 9600. This
followed a visit in 1990 by Mathis Galea a teacher from the King George VI High
School, Ranadi, Honiara who had attended a District 9600 RYLA Camp locally and
spent one week at the College for work experience and observation and attended
an Interact Meeting. Soon after his
return home he got the support of his school and the Rotary Club of Honiara to
bring to fruition his vision for an Interact Club at his High School. For a number of years we
donated their Office Bearers Badges. In
1996 we joined with the Rotarians in Donations in Kind project forwarding
school supplies of stationery, text books and dictionaries etc. to the King
George VI High School. The Rotarians
approached a few publishing houses and all the generous donations received were
packed by Interactors and duly despatched.
Total value was in excess of A$1500. Our Club is one of service
with fun. Over the years we have raised
funds for distribution to recommended Charities by many varied and enjoyable
functions including Masquerade Ball, Surfing Big Bash Competition held
annually, Alcohol, Smoke and Drug Free Discos, Teachers Arm Wrestling
Competition, Sausage Sizzles, Free Dress days, “Lip-sync” competitions and a
few other weird ways, and for the past two years we have hosted and catered for
the Rotary Club to hold a meeting at the College, with the Interactors
providing the meal and the Guest Speaker.
It is an enjoyable and profitable night. The Rotarians pay their usual dinner fees and the Interactors
cajole parents for the maximum amount towards the meal to be donated. |
