Since the formation of
IABS in 1988 the Polyphonics have won the Men’s Chorus National
Championship on six occasions (1988, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1995, and
2002). This is a unique achievement. The chorus has undergone major changes in personnel in recent years. Two of the founder Polyphonics, Ted Johnson our chairman and Mark Elmes a former chairman of IABS, have continued to sing with the chorus to date. Two members of the group who won the National Championship in 1995 sang in the 2002 championship. In September 2001 the membership dropped to a critical level of just seven men. However since then with an infusion of new talent the numbers have risen to 18 members. Under the excellent stewardship of our Musical Director, Regina Gilley, with lots of hard work, coaching from Lynda Woods (LABBS) and Patrick Kelly, the chorus has continuously grown in strength back to the exceptional standards of the Polyphonics of old. We look forward with confidence to the future, to the continued development of the group, to more enjoyment and friendships developed through singing, and of course, to the retention of our title as National Champions at the next Convention!! We rehearse every Thursday night 7:30 pm, St Mary's Hall Carrigaline We look forward to a busy year ahead singing in competitions, at corporate events and other social and musical occasions. We would welcome any new members who would enjoy the challenge of this unique singing style. You may contact us by email us here Here a some recent as well as historical photos of our group
