OUR CHORUS Champagne Bottle
Music line

Champagne Cork won first place in the I.A.B.S National Ladies Chorus competition in 2000 and were silver medallists in 2001.

Clare Hunt handed over the Directorship to Assistant Director, Ursula Mulvihill following Convention 2003. Ursula was a strong member of the chorus for a number of years, and attended BABS Directors' College in January 2003. She herself had studied both Violin and Voice in the Cork School of Music, where Bobby Beare was her Singing teacher. She holds an Associate and a Licentiate from the London College of Music (ALCM and LLCM), and so Champagne Cork Chorus was really lucky to find a member as well-qualified as Ursula is to take over from Clare. She has continued to inspire confidence in members and to keep up the spirit of friendship and fun that has always been the hallmark of Champagne Cork since it's foundation.
Today Champagne Cork continues to strive at perfecting the Barbershop style of singing. We rehearse every Wednesday night in Cork County Cricket Club on the famous Mardyke and we are always glad to welcome visitors to our sessions. On average our chorus stands at around twenty members.

CONGRATULATIONS and well done girls, one and all. CONGRATULATIONS Clare

The acorn for Champagne Cork was sown back in 1994 when Clare Hunt and her vocal ensemble heard several barbershop choruses and quartets perform, while competing at the A.I.M.S. (Association of Irish Musical Societies) Choral Festival in New Ross, Co. Wexford. Following that outing Clare put together a small barbershop chorus.

Since then Champagne Cork's annual program has included attending various Irish Barbershop conventions and competitions - prize wins have resulted on several occasions! We have also previously attended two Harmony College Workshops during the Killarney Roaring 20's Festivals.

Today Champagne Cork continues to strive at perfecting the Barbershop style of singing. We have been fortunate on previous occasions to secure coaching from Lynda Woods of
LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers). These workshop sessions with Lynda have helped to improve our Barbershop vocal technique and performing presentation.

We would like to pay tribute to Pat Kelly who has given us coaching and lots of encouragement ever since we started. We wish him success with his new Harmony Consulting Company, www.harmony-consulting.com We have already benefited from this when Leo Larivee recently brought Beverly Miller, Director of River Magic, Huntington, to give us a coaching session, and what a session!! It could only be described as sensational!  We look forward to Beverly bringing her chorus to our Convention in Dublin next October. Pat has given us some more help since then, and B Natural are looking forward to having a couple of coaching sessions from him too.

We competed in New Ross Choral Festival, B/Shop section on Sunday May 20th 2001. New Ross is a lovely small town in the South East of the country. They hold a Choral Festival every year at this time. Benatural competed also in this open Competition. There were 10 Groups competing. Benatural were the winners and Champagne Cork  the Runners Up. We were all very happy with the result
